Why growing using chemically produced Hydroponic Nutrients & Additives is bad for your plants and requires constant monitoring.

Chemically produced nutrients are dissolved in the water used in hydroponics and are mostly in inorganic and ionic form. Primary among the dissolved cations (An ion or group of ions having a positive charge and characteristically moving toward the negative electrode in electrolysis) are calcium, magnesium, and potassium; the major nutrient anions in nutrient solutions are nitrate, sulfate, and dihydrogen phosphate.

Numerous formulas for hydroponic solutions are available. Most use different combinations of harsh chemicals to reach similar total final compositions.

Plants will change the composition of the chemically produced nutrient solutions upon contact by depleting specific nutrients more rapidly than others, removing water from the solution, and altering the pH by excretion of either acidity or alkalinity. Care is constantly required not to allow salt concentrations to become too high, nutrients to become too depleted, or pH to wander far from the desired value.
